Founding Years
Joseph George was born in Georgia. He joined the army and was based in San Francisco during WWI. Joseph bought Koerber Distribution in the late 1930s and renamed it Joseph George in 1940. Located on St. John Street in downtown San Jose, the company sold candy, tobacco and coca-cola syrup to local retailers and pharmacies throughout Santa Clara Valley. After WWII ended, Joseph added liquor, wine & beer and soon grew the business to be one of the largest distributors in Northern California. All along, Joseph George was a great supporter in the community, donating funds to build schools, parks and contributing to many community organizations. Joseph George passed away in 1972, and left an inspired legacy of leadership, community involvement and generosity.
